Stand Up NY at 221 W 46th Street has been one of New York City's most accessible comedy clubs since 1986. Located in the Theater District near Times Square, it is the most tourist-friendly major comedy club in the city — easy to find, centrally located, and with a welcoming atmosphere for first-time visitors. The club books a mix of local NYC comedians and national touring acts, with shows running most nights of the week. Tickets run $20–$40 with a two-item minimum. Age policy is 16+ with a guardian, 18+ without. Stand Up NY is the best option for tourists who want a reliable comedy night without the advance planning required at the Comedy Cellar or Gotham.

Three stars for the comedians, or else I would have given it 1 star. Pros: Great ambience, good enough food (some items aren’t as pricey so that’s a huge plus) CONS: They messed up our bill the first time and then we asked them to bring us a revised one. So finally we have the right bill and we put our cards down. THEN they bring the bill back AND THEY CHANGED ONE ITEM FROM 2 BEERS TO 3. I have NEVER faced such deception in NYC before. After we pointed out that they increased the number to 3 beers they went and got the original bill and handed us 6-7 bill slips WHICH STILL HADNT FIXED THE AMOUNT. We ended up leaving without resolving it because we gave up they were clearly doing this on purpose to cheat the customers. So please please beware and keep checking the bill if you plan to go here. Yes I saved the whole stack of messed up calculations that they did with the bills. The thing is the comic lineup was so fantastic and that’s separate from how poor the service was so now I would want to go back to another show but I wouldn’t want this same service. There’s a $20 Food/Drink minimum but it’s a pretty fancy location so I wouldn’t mind spending that if I was on a date or celebrating something.
Live near this place, went in for a show tonight (Saturday) that was being taped. I’ve been to a handful of shows, some are great, some are less so. That’s life. That’s comedy. This show definitely had some awesome comedians and great acts but the guy running it was brutal. It was being taped and the host wanted us to laugh and clap on command. He was doing little hand signs, just very forced. So uncomfortable. We got our check at intermission so we could bail and the server berated us for leaving because she would need to fill the table. But we were in the far back and there were plenty of open tables. This seems like a great club, the drinks were good, the decor was decent, and I bet with other hosts on other nights it’s great, but it wasn’t tonight. If I come back and it’s different, I’ll update this but for now, two stars is the best I can do.
We are wheelchair accessible and have a wheelchair accessible bathroom on the first floor.
