Carolines on Broadway at 1626 Broadway is New York City's premier venue for major touring comedians. Founded in 1982 and relocated to its current Times Square location in 1992, Carolines has hosted virtually every major name in American stand-up comedy. The room seats approximately 300 people with a traditional theater-style layout. When a comedian is on a national tour and wants a New York date, Carolines is typically where they play. The tradeoff is intimacy — the room is larger and more theater-like than the Comedy Cellar or Gotham — but for seeing a specific comedian you love, it is the most reliable option in the city. Tickets run $22–$50 depending on the headliner.
