Since its opening in 2005, Philly Improv Theater (PHIT) has been the heart of Philadelphia’s nationally recognized comedy scene.

Careful signing up for classes here. If you book a role or for any reason have to miss classes, they offer no flexibility whatsoever. I needed to opt out of an 8 week summer session, and wanted to take the fall session instead but they will apply 0% of what you paid. If you have to miss classes they don't allow make-ups and you can't apply your payment toward another session even if your session hasn't begun. The owner babbled on about their refund policy, but I wasn't asking for a refund of a single dollar - just to apply my payment to a later session. Even if these are the best classes in Philadelphia (highly doubt that), their customer service is non-existent. UPDATE: they did end up refunding my payment, but the interaction soured me and I won't sign up for another session. I've changed it to 3 stars, but the information I provided stands.
I've been lucky to be a part of the PHIT Improv community this year and I cannot tell you how supportive and genuine the coaches/students/staff are here! There's quite a diversity in shows and people, which makes the experience all the more fun, real, and inclusive. For comedy fans, the shows are super affordable, and for future students, I'd recommend taking a free "Intro to..." class to get your feet wet. Wish I would've found this place sooner!
